to honor those who were murdered on October 7th

Learning Torah is one traditional way to honor the memories of loved ones who have died. In particular, it is a custom to make a siyyum, the ceremony that accompanies the completion of an established unit of the Torah, in their honor.

Over the upcoming weeks, members of our community will learn all 929 chapters of Tanach (Torah, Nivi'im/the Prophets, and Kituvim/the Writings) with the goal of holding a siyyum (at our Heschel Community Commemoration on October 8th – see below) to honor those who were murdered on October 7th. No matter what your familiarity with textual study, this is something you can do! And we hope you will. Here are some thoughts about the different ways to fulfill this mitzvah of learning Tanach.

To join this siyum of Tanach, please check the relevant chapters, enter your name and email address and submit.

Assignment should be completed bli neder by 6 Tishri 5785 (Tuesday, October 08, 2024) sundown.
